I was brought up in a casual
Catholic household. Although not actively involved in the church, we attended
mass every Sunday as a family, and I prayed every night before bed. I knew
there was a God; there just had to be. It was the only way I ever knew.
In high school, I began noticing
things about the church and scriptures that I no longer found comfort in;
rather, they disturbed me. I gradually became distant from my faith, which
leads me to where I am today. My beliefs (or lack thereof) cannot be simply
classified with a specific label, but I suppose I would fall between
agnosticism and atheism.
I built shadowboxes to contrast my
beliefs as a child and my beliefs as an adult. Through innocent eyes, I only
focused on the inspiring and loving messages from God, whereas today I have an
entirely different view on the subject matter. My faith has been extinguished.
